In Genesis we are told that God made man in His own image and likeness (Gen. 1:26), and immediately gave man the following dietary guidelines: “And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.” (Gen. 1:29).

Of late I have been forced to wonder if Christians today have totally forgotten certain texts that are to be found in the bible or if they believe those texts have lost their significance in this day and age ; one in particular that comes to mind is “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” (1 John 2 :15 ). It really doesn’t seem that to many this text holds any weight , we live in an age where there is “christian boxing” , “ gospel gangsters” , “ christian rap” and the like and there are even some christians who cant bother with the imitations , they want the real thing and attend the same clubs, dancehalls and fetes ( in the Jamaican context) that the “worldlings” attend . Christians in this day and age seem to be more infatuated with the world than ever before.

Quotations for this document are taken from the KJV and NIV (for purposes of emphasis).

Music has always played a pivotal role in worship, the various divisions of the Psalms are actually music, Ezekiel Chapter 28 verses 11-13 describes Lucifer, who later became satan, as a being who was designed to perform music in heaven, which makes it clear that even before the entrance of sin into the universe music was vital for the enhancement of the worship experience.  At the final consummation of redemption, the great multitude of the redeemed will sing: “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exalt and give him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to be clothed with the fine linen, bright and pure” (Rev 19:6-8).
